Challenge
A surgical device manufacturer offers stapler cartridges that are refillable and thus need to be tracked for quality control purposes. By laser marking each cartridge with a unique QR code and serial number, the customer can ensure traceability, monitor which device each cartridge was used in, and maintain quality standards for their medical equipment. This tracking is crucial for patient safety and device management in medical applications.
Because the customer offers multiple product variations, they needed a flexible laser marking system that could accommodate multiple cartridge sizes with minimal changeover time.
Developing a Solution
HAHN Automation Group is intimately familiar with this customer’s unique product line and manufacturing processes. Therefore, we were able to design a laser marker with a large cavity and drawer to easily accommodate a variety of product sizes. The customizable setup ensures products are kept within the specified focal range of the laser by using easy to change fixtures and tooling.
The current setup includes 12 cartridge nests and is semi-automated, requiring one operator to load, configure, and initiate the laser marking process.
