Challenge
The customer’s production of implantable medical devices—pacemakers and defibrillators—was fully manual and had to accommodate over 30 different product formats. Key challenges included handling miniature, multi-angled components with high precision, ensuring ultra-fast format changeovers without downtime, and maintaining a compact system footprint compliant with ISO 7 cleanroom & GMP standards.
In a regulated medical environment, improving productivity while preserving flexibility and consistent quality was critical.
Developing a Solution
The HAHN Automation Group introduced a modular, intelligent process automation concept combining XPlanar, FlexFeeder, and robotics. This setup enabled highly flexible product transport and multi-part handling without mechanical changeovers. The entire system was designed to fit within the customer’s cleanroom constraints.
Integrated HAHN Analytics and Vision tools delivered full process transparency, predictive maintenance insights, and measurable OEE improvements. Technologies such as medical adhesive dosing and traceable screwdriving ensured compliance with stringent medical manufacturing standards.
